LIVING IN SYDNEY - Week 1

Now we’ve been Glebies for a week an update is due!! We’re really liking Glebe (with its one-legged tramp, cheap DVD rental shop and British Sweet Shop among other highlights) and there’s no regrets about moving here!!

We had a good Easter, including a funny night out in the city, and the following day spent slobbing around all day, a trip to Paddy’s Markets, and The Big Walk - we spent four hours trekking round Sydney to see all the sights. We even touched The Opera House when we could get close to it among all the tourists - oh wait, we are those sad tourists!!!! We seemed to start a craze with touching it, we looked back later and everyone was getting their picture taken with one hand on those famous tiles!!!

On Tuesday we headed to Palm Beach, better known as Summer Bay, better known as the homeplace of Home and Away!! To be honest there’s not a lot there but we (and a few others) were happy to have our photos taken next to Alf Stewart’s Surf Club (complete with his name registered as the licensee) and the infamous beach!!! It wasn’t the sunniest of days either but it was v cool to see it and it’s made the thought of going to Ramsay Street even more excting (if that was possible)!!!

Just to mention the boring bits of being here I’ve managed to get a job!! For 8 hours I filed some boring medical files at a big company in North Sydney last Friday and got about 11 paper cuts so that was fun!!! The kitchen/common room did have an AMAZING view over the city and the commute involves travelling on a double decker train over Harbour Bridge so that almost makes up for it but I hope I manage to get something better soon!!!

Saturday was spent at Bondi Beach!! Picture the scene…. Bondi Beach, famous throughout Australia for its surf and sun and great atmosphere. Picture all the cool people hanging around…. all those surfers and lifeguards and sunbathers…. Then picture Torquay (or any British seaside town) in about April and that’s Bondi!!! We got there about mid afternnoon so after a yummy pizza we headed down to the beach where we sat shiverring in our jumpers for about an hour laughing at anyone stupid enough to strip off and all the runners in their speedos!! Was good to see it but don’t fell the urge to return!!
